Greensboro Engagement Session

Top 7 Locations for Engagement Photos in Greensboro

You’re engaged! That means it’s time to start planning your engagement session. Once you’ve got your photographer, the next step is to pick a date and location. Your location can make or break the session. I’ve compiled a list of some of the best engagement photo locations in Greensboro, North Carolina. There should be something in here for every need, whether it’s a charming park, urban backdrop, or a simple open grassy field.

You and your fiance need to make sure you’re choosing a location that makes sense for you. For example, don’t choose a mountaintop engagement if you’ve never hiked before, you’ll be exhausted and sweaty before we ever start taking photos. The best locations are the ones that you love, are easily accessible, or you have a personal connection to. I’ve got some tips on choosing a unique spot at the end of this list!

1. Greensboro Arboretum

The Arboretum is a spacious garden, located just minutes from downtown Greensboro. Some of the prominent features include a Landmark Arbor, stone pathways and bridges, and many different varieties of plants and blooming flowers. The area is large, but allows for a range of photo locations, and helps you avoid people during the busy times. The paths are easy to walk, and you can utilize the several parking lots there or park on the street near the main entrance. The park hours change year round, typically closing around sunset. A fee is required for professional photography there.

2. Fisher Park

Fisher Park is located off N Elm Street, and despite being surrounded by roads is a quiet neighborhood area. The winding paths offer beautiful wooded backdrops, and there are many adorable stone bridges. A creek flows through the park, which adds a fun and dynamic element to your photos. In the spring, azaleas bloom everywhere, giving beautiful pops of pink and white to your images. It’s close enough to downtown that you can start there while it’s brighter, then head downtown for sunset portraits.

3. Downtown Greensboro

Downtown Greensboro has some excellent photo locations that work well for your engagement session. You can walk the sidewalks with lots of charming businesses on either side. There are many beautiful churches, including this one right across from Fisher Park. Center City Park has a water fountain, little waterfalls, a courtyard, and a nice grassy lawn. The courthouse has a classic look with lots of stone stairs, and blooming cherry blossoms in the spring.

4. Summerfield Farms

With lots of open fields, wooded areas, and a flower garden and pond, Summerfield Farms has a variety of options for your engagement session. This farm is north of Greensboro and it’s easy to find since it’s just off of 220. The wedding venue has two different barns on property, an elegant white building, and a rustic wooden pole barn. It’s the perfect option for a weekday engagement when there are no other events going on, and it’s relatively private if you don’t want to deal with the general public.

5. Tanger Bicentennial Garden

If you love that classic botanical garden look, then the Tanger Garden might be right for you. It is lush and green, with many flowering trees and blooms all over. There are well manicured lawns and winding paths all over the gardens. The stone walls and arched bridge make for interesting visual contrast. It’s an incredibly relaxing place for your engagement session.

6. The Lakes

There are several lakes north of Greensboro, including Lake Brandt and Lake Higgins. One of the best spaces to access a gorgeous lake view is at Bur Mill Park Pier. There are many walking paths, wooden boardwalks, and other piers to explore around the area. This area is my favorite during the fall, when the leaf colors have changed and the water reflection really pops.

7. Revolution Mill

The Mill has a lot of different businesses, but also has a wedding venue, the Colonnade. The outdoor space gives you that urban feel for a downtown look, without being overcrowded. The classic brick and smokestack make for an iconic backdrop. There is a private courtyard at the Colonnade, with a fountain, and flowering dogwood trees in early spring. The indoor space has nice window light and beautiful hardwood floors. A walking bridge with the building behind provides that industrial, yet elegant vibe.

Still searching for the perfect photo spot in Greensboro?

If none of these locations sound like the right fit, think about places that would mean the most to the two of you personally. Here are some questions you can ask yourself.

  • Where was your first date? A cozy coffee shop or homey pizza place can be an adorable spot for an engagement shoot.
  • What do you enjoy doing together? Let’s make it a date night and you guys can play pinball at the arcade or hang out at a bar and pretend I’m not there.
  • What’s your favorite food? Theres nothing more relaxing than sharing food with the one you love, let’s grab some tacos from a food truck and enjoy them on a picnic in the park.
  • Does your family own property? Maybe your grandparents own a farm or a friend has a grassy field in the middle of nowhere, let’s utilize that!
